Maranatha is a little over an hour from the Milwaukee airport and about one hour from the Madison airport. We are about 2½ hours from the Chicago airport. We will provide pickup and drop-off service for Milwaukee or Madison. Directions can be found here.

Meals will be provided in the Maranatha dining commons. Housing will be provided in an UN-airconditioned dorm (sorry ☹—we’re in the north and don’t need AC during the school year, so pray for a cool week). If you are driving, it would help MBU if you brought your own sheets, blankets, towels, pillow, etc. If you are flying, we will provide these items for you, unless you want to bring your own. Beds are typical dorm bunk beds, but we won’t make anyone sleep in the upper bunk! If you want more luxurious housing, feel free to make reservations at our local Holiday Inn or Super8. Those are the only two recommended motels in Watertown (for more information on local accommodations click here).

Note: due to a mix-up, we’re asking all participants to re-register for the Summit. Please click here to register, even if you have already done so. Early registration will help us with preparations on our end. If you have any questions, please email me, use the website’s contact form, or call me through the Maranatha switchboard at 920.261.9300.

Bible Faculty Summit August 5–6, 2015

May 18, 2015 By Mark Ward

As we near the end of May, we are approaching a sufficient number of paper topics submitted to move forward. If you are still thinking about proposing a paper, I need to hear from you by May 29th. If there is a surplus of submissions, the committee will select the final papers to be presented.

Please ensure that you register for the conference by the end of May so that we may make appropriate plans here in Minnesota for the gathering.

Second Call for Papers, 2015

April 17, 2015 By Mark Ward

DSC_4038

We already have a nice selection of papers submitted for consideration for the meeting in Minneapolis, August 5-6, for the Bible Faculty Summit. The conference will be Wednesday and Thursday this year. This will allow Tuesday and Friday to be travel days for those coming a distance.

We are planning for twelve papers, six per day. The theme for this summit is The Christian and Cultural Engagement. There is a lot of talk in today’s church—particularly among evangelicals—about the scope and limitations of our responsibility for cultural engagement. Some remember the old days of the Moral Majority. What should be our response to issues like homosexuality? Gay marriage? Open marriage? Of course, we all realize that these are sin issues. How should the Church respond in this sinful world? We have had some good papers the last several years, and we anticipate more this year. We hope some will write on the theme of the conference, but papers are always welcome outside the theme. There is still time to submit a paper proposal. Please consider this a follow-up call for papers.

Don’t forget, there will be no cost for those coming beyond your cost of getting here. Central Seminary will be putting up invited faculty from sister institutions in an area hotel where breakfast will be provided. Lunch and dinner will be served at the seminary during the two days of the Summit. We also want to extend an invitation to post-graduate students and pastors with earned academic doctorates who may wish to participate. We will happily arrange for these to be billeted in homes of members of Fourth Baptist Church if necessary. (Unfortunately, we are only able to offer hotel accommodations for the faculty members in attendance.)

Finally, do you have other suggestions for the conference next summer? Let us know.
